The Sama Dance Academy was established in 1990 with the objective of teaching traditional dance to Sri Lankan children. Students from age seven onwards study dance in week-end classes.
The other wing of the academy focuses on training young dancers for stage purpose, with modern dance techniques. The academy also offers traditional dance courses for foreign student s. Our teachers are also invited to teach Sri Lankan dance in other countries. The academy has conducted such short term courses in Australia and Norway.
The company is presently directed by Ajith Amarasiri who was the first founder member of the Sama Ballet. Since its inception he has been the main dancer, assistant Director, choreographer and troupe manager of the company. His leadership has brought the company's development to great heights artistically, logistically and financially, spreading its name as an artistically high standard dance troupe. He is a dancer of great capacity in both traditional & modern areas.
